About: Asoka Mission
Asoka Mission is a registered society headquartered in a centuries old heritage campus in the Mehrauli sector of New Delhi.
Asoka Mission was established in 1948 by Venerable Dharmavara Mahathera, an eminent Cambodian monk to promote the legacy of Emperor Asoka and propagate the Dhamma in India and throughout the world. Since 1975, the organisation has been headed by Venerable Lama Lobzang. Hailing from the region of Ladakh, which has centuries old culture of Buddhism, Venerable Lama Lobzang, has been working tirelessly to preserve the Buddhist heritage of India and promote it throughout the world.
Venerable Lama Lobzang has undertaken to revitalise the neglected sites associated with the life of the Buddha by engaging with the local community at these sites. His work has focused on communities having Buddhist roots, like the Shakyas, Mauryas, Kushwahas and Sainis, enlightening them about their Buddhist roots to bring them back into the fold of the Dhamma.
Venerable Lama Lobzang has also hosted several eminent persons and world leaders at Asoka Mission campus in New Delhi including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness the Panchen Lama, Honourable Late President of India Shri K.R. Narayanan, His Excellency Prince Norodom Sinhanouk of Cambodia, His Holiness the Sangharaja of Loas, His Holiness Gamboja Hambo Lama of Mongolia and Venerable Fuji Guruji of Japan.
